The Enuma Elish: Ancient Sumerian Secrets and their Impact on Modern Religion

The stories of Adam and Eve, Noah, and the Tower of Babel are much older than the Bible. These stories find their origins in ancient Sumer, dating back approximately 6,000 years. This is long before the advent of Christianity or Judaism. Consequently, these tales, carved on ancient slabs, involve characters with names we don’t find in the Old or New Testaments. But they have intriguingly shaped the foundations of both Jewish and Christian religious traditions. Let’s delve into the mysterious Enuma elish tablets and their impact on our sacred narratives. It whispers of a hidden knowledge that influenced the course of human history.

The Ancient Sumerian Tablets: A Glimpse into Pre-Biblical Myths

The Enuma elish (which translates to in the beginning) is a collection of Sumerian tablets that recount creation stories. Unlike the familiar biblical characters of Adam and Eve, or Noah, these narratives feature much older and alternative protagonists. What’s even more fascinating is the dating of these stories—they precede Christianity and Judaism by thousands of years. These ancient tales have both captivated and befuddled scholars and historians. They also raise questions regarding influence and development on our sacred beliefs.

Allegations of Borrowed Wisdom

Concept of Genesis and the original sin. Eve offers an apple to Adam by subjecting him to temptation under the gaze of the serpent, which symbolizes evil.

According to scholars, the Old Testament was written around 536 CE. Historians propose that, in their pursuit of a religious identity, the Hebrews incorporated elements from the much older Sumerian culture. The Sumerian culture had already influenced the Mesopotamians and Assyrians. Some theorists imply that Hebraic tradition adapted and transformed a few Sumerian stories: the Garden of Eden, the Flood, and the Tower of Babel.

The Christian Connection: Secret Teachings and the New Testament

Christianity, other scholars claim, further embraced and modified these ancient accounts. Allegedly, secret teachings then passed down through Jesus, who often spoke in parables. Moreover, they claim, Jesus revealed hidden knowledge to his disciples. Among them, the prophet John is credited for concealing secret knowledge within the pages of the Apocalypse.

A Mysterious Journey to France: The Grail Lineage and the ‘Ancient Tradition’

Another legend alleges that after Christ’s crucifixion, someone brought the secrets of God to the South of France. Here, God’s secrets, sometimes referred to as the ancient tradition, reemerged within the Grail familial lineage. The Grail name was closely associated with the Holy Grail itself (akin to how ancient secrets are linked to the Kabbalah in Judaism.)

The Quest for the Holy Grail: Longing for a Lost Connection

But what does the Holy Grail or unlocking the secrets of the Kabbalah represent? The quest may symbolize humanity’s yearning to return to a primordial state. Or it may symbolize a sense of lost eternity after our ancestors were expelled from the Garden of Eden. According to Sumerian lore, humans became trapped in a temporal world and trapped in time after Anki ate forbidden flowers. Anki (or Enki) translates to universe. When divided into An and Ki, the name translates to sky god and earth god.

A concerned Goddess created Ninti (mistress of life) to heal Enki after he ate forbidden flowers. This goddess Ninhursag crafted Ninti from the earth with the specific purpose of healing Enki’s wounded rib. Unfortunately, Enki was later exterminated when his sibling gods guided him to a ‘lower plane’, one inhabited by demons. This occurred after he had partnered with Ninti to create humans.

Sumerian mythology states that the gods created humans as a slave race to serve them and to mine gold. The gods, according to lore, could manifest as either benevolent or malevolent. The gods deprived humans of their ‘first eye,’ more commonly known in contemporary society as the third eye. This severed humanity’s direct connection to higher powers and spiritual traditions. In other words, the Truth became obscured.

The Hidden Power of Language: Vibrations, Frequencies, and Energy

Sumerian texts hold power. It is thought that each symbol of the language holds special powers. The language was designed as a sacred science to manifest form (vibration), sound (frequencies), and action (energy). It is thought that this sacred science surpasses any knowledge we possess today. It enabled Sumerian leaders to forge a profound connection between our world and the heavens. According to the tablets, secret knowledge was once shared with humans. This facilitated contact with other worlds and a deep understanding of the vibratory aspects of the universe.

The Corruption and Concealment of Divine Secrets

Sadly, the Sumerian tablets also reveal a darker side of ancient knowledge. Humans, according to legend, became corrupted and misused the science of light and sound. The gods, witnessing humanity’s reckless actions, decided to confound or drown humans in a great flood. They concealed their secret codes and blinded humans to the divine.

The gods felt that the majority of humankind lived like brute animals, their lives centered on survival and breeding. The gods took their sacred wisdom from humans and hid it away. Thousdands of years later, conspiracies arose about how dark governments and corrupt individuals rediscovered ancient knowledge, and only shared it under the strictest of secrecy or security clearances.

Intriguing, isn’t it? The Enuma elish and its associated myths, offer us an alternate view of human history and its religions. The Enuma elish suggests that beneath the layers of time and religious interpretation, ancient knowledge still awaits uncovering. They undeniably stir the imagination and prompt us to contemplate the enduring quest for heavenly connection, the eternal, and the divine.
